Leesa mattress ceases trading in UK and the rest of Europe
The US business appears unaffected by the closure of Leesa’s European operation
Bed-in-a-box mattress manufacturer Leesa has ceased trading in the UK, according to a notice on the company’s website.
“Leesa is no longer fulfilling orders or operating in Europe”, the notice reads. “For all inquiries and additional information please contact Lucy Duckworth at Lucy.Duckworth@cowgills.co.uk.”
Leesa mattress launched in the UK in 2016 after achieving major success in the US. At the time, the disruptive bed-in-a-box company had received a $9 million investment from private equity firm TitleCard Capital, backed by Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and other celebrities. The company further expanded its European operation by moving into Ireland in 2018.
When we tested the Leesa Mattress back in 2019, we found it to be a top firm mattress and awarded it a 4-star rating, with Jon Bray labeling it “a solid bed-in-a-box offering that offers the perfect balance between support and comfort”.
Like most of its bed-in-a-box rivals including Emma and Otty, Leesa mattresses came with a 100-night trial, meaning if you had any quibbles with the product, you could return it for a full refund at any time within that period. Its mattresses were also covered by a ten-year guarantee against manufacturing defects and for every ten sold, Leesa donated one to charity.
At our last check, the UK site was selling both its original “Leesa” mattress, as well as the “Leesa Luxury Hybrid” and “Leesa Pillow”. We have approached Ms Duckworth for comment and will update this article when we have any more information about the closure.
At the time of writing, however, it is not clear what the closure of the European business means for existing customers. The mattress remains on sale on John Lewis’ website.
