Toshiba Satellite Z930 review

As you might expect from a mid-range Ultrabook, the 13.3in display has a 1,366×768 resolution that looks sharp, but not spectacular. A matt finish helps keep light reflections to a minimum and there’s plenty of screen tilt, but that’s where the positive points end. The screen isn’t particularly bright, with somewhat washed out colours and viewing angles are hopeless. Anything less than a direct-on angle results in washed out colours. We also noticed that the screen wobbles alarmingly on its hinges with only minimal force, which is disappointing in an £800 machine.

At £800, the Z930 is slightly more expensive than other mid-range Ultrabooks currently available, and although it has the benefit of solid state storage, it falls down in other areas and struggles to justify the extra expense. They keyboard isn’t particularly comfortable to type on and the screen is disappointingly loose. It’s also not a particularly high quality panel either, and although we appreciate the matt finish it noticeably impacts colour reproduction. We think the HP Envy 4 is a better machine overall, even if it isn’t quite as thin or light, because it costs £100 less.
