Fusion Garage JooJoo review
Irritating to use with a slew of missing features, the JooJoo tablet is a great bit of hardware controlled by a deeply-flawed operating system.
Specifications
12.1 in 1,366×768 display, 1.1kg, 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270, 1.00GB RAM, 4GB disk, Linux
Sadly, the reality is that the JooJoo is a frustrating and flawed device. For starters, the list of icons on the home screen can’t be edited or added to. This is particularly annoying, as there’s no way to remove US-only services, such as Hulu or Pandora Radio.
The only way you can add new sites is by adding Bookmarks. Even this feature is appallingly implemented, and once you’ve created a Bookmark there’s no way to edit it or delete it. Apparently, there’s an update coming that will let you manage Bookmarks, but we can’t understand why this simple feature wouldn’t be implemented in the first place. Similarly, you can’t delete your browsing history at all, so you’re stuck with an ever-growing list of all the websites that you’ve ever visited.
Accessing your history and bookmarks involves going to the homescreen and sliding left or right. The transition from one screen to another involves a hideously slow jerky transition that makes the iPad’s super-smooth operations look a billion times better. It’s odd that the JooJoo struggles here, as it’s fine for scrolling around web pages.
Browsing the internet is an often frustrating experience. Bizarrely you can only scroll around websites by using two fingers, instead of the usual convention of just a single finger. The reason is that some Flash games require single-finger scrolling, but this makes no sense, as Android 2.2 supports Flash and single-finger scrolling of websites.
Then there’s the fact that you can’t zoom into web pages at all. The normal pinch-to-zoom gesture does nothing at all. We can’t even begin to fathom why this feature wouldn’t be implemented, and it makes it massively annoying to use the tablet.
