The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the cheapest it’s ever been
The sun may have set on Amazon Prime Day, but the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is still on sale
After showing up in shops late last year, Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro quite rightly earned the plus-sized smartphone crown, but its eye-watering launch price was a tough pill to swallow. As reviewer extraordinaire Jonathan Bray said at the time, £899 is an inconceivable amount of money to spend on any smartphone, no matter how good it may be.

A phone this big commanded a big price tag at launch, but the Mate 20 Pro has since seen quite a few major price reductions. Mercifully, the 128GB model usually goes for around £600 these days, but Amazon knocked a further £100 off in the July sales.
When this offer first cropped up during the consumer shopping bonanza that is Amazon Prime Day, we thought it’d be a flash sale. So we’re gratified to see the offer still stands, despite 2019’s Prime Day having since elapsed.
This means that you can still pick up a “Twilight” or “Black” Mate 20 Pro for only £500. This is the cheapest that Huawei’s phablet has ever been, representing a total saving of £399 (44%) when compared with the original launch price. You certainly can’t argue with those numbers.
Carphone Warehouse has also jumped on the bargainous bandwagon, offering the SIM-free Huawei Mate 20 Pro for a round £500 on its website. Take your pick of retailers; this is an excellent deal.
Of course, the recent US government trade ban might still be enough to put off potential buyers. The Trump administration has since announced that it is loosening the restrictions with Huawei, although there’s currently no word yet on how long this relaxation will last.
If you can get beyond that, you might yet want to consider signing up for an Amazon Prime subscription if you haven’t already. The sun may have set on this year’s Prime Day, but members still get access to Prime Video and next-day delivery on an enormous range of products. Plus, you’ll be laughing when Prime Day 2020 rolls around.
