The Pixel 6a is the best smartphone deal this Black Friday
Google's mid-range Pixel 6a is now a ridiculous deal thanks to this massive Amazon Black Friday price drop
The Pixel 6a didn’t have to dramatically slash a quarter off its price to impress us, but Amazon did it anyway in this incredible Black Friday deal. Just for the Black Friday fun of it.
Google’s mid-range smartphone was already a bargain when it launched back in July for just £399, making it £200 cheaper than its big brother the Pixel 6 and less than half the price of the Pixel 6 Pro. Well, get this for a festive treat: the Pixel 6a is now another £100 cheaper for Black Friday, at its lowest-ever price of £299.
Amazon’s deal gets you an unlocked SIM-free phone, with 5G, 6.1in FHD+ display, 6GB memory and 128GB storage. The phone’s much-praised camera has a 12MP f/1.7 primary lens, 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide lens and 8MP f/2 selfie lens, plus Pixel-specific software tools including Magic Eraser. You can choose from Charcoal, Sage or Chalk body colour.
The Pixel 6a’s 6.1in display is the smallest of the three Pixel phones, but it’s still an HDR-certified OLED panel, with the same total resolution as the regular Pixel 6 (2,400 x 1,080). Our reviewer called the screen “phenomenal”, and said that its colour performance not only surpasses the competition but even gives more expensive flagship handsets a run for their money.
Our Pixel 6a review praised its bright, colour-accurate screen (“sublime”), impressive Google Tensor chipset and outstanding flagship-quality camera.
The Pixel 6a punches well above its weight when taking photos, with our reviewer noting that it “continues the trend set by Google in providing high-end smartphone photography at reasonable prices.” The depth and detail captured by the main camera is unmatched by the 6a’s competitors, and we’re seriously impressed by its ability to capture sharp, colour-true images in low lighting conditions.
Software is another big plus point for all the Pixel phones, the 6a included. They’re usually the first Android phones to receive core updates, and you can even beta test new versions as part of Google’s preview program, with Android 13 doing the rounds as we speak.
We awarded the Pixel 6a four stars rather than the maximum five, partly because it had so much excellent competition in its original price range, and partly because it lacks a microSD expansion slot. But after such a surprising 25% price drop, it’s hard to find fault with this fantastic smartphone.
