Prime Day is here, and Amazon has SLASHED prices on Kindles, Echos and Fire TV

Amazon Prime Day

Now is the time to stock up on Amazon-branded gadgets if you’re keen

We may be a good five months away from Christmas, as the boiling weather outside clearly proves, but that doesn’t mean we can’t expect a good sale. Right on time, Amazon has kicked off Prime Day – the annual shopping jamboree where customers can get their hands on all kinds of products at a huge discount.

Well, not all customers. You need to be a Prime subscriber – but you can sign up right now if you’re not already subscribed. As well as access to today’s deals, that gives you free postage and unlimited access to the Prime Video TV service.
You can read about the best deals site-wide here, but for our money, some of the best bargains are on Amazon’s own brands: Kindle, Echo and Fire TV.

Let’s start with the Kindle, Amazon’s brilliant ebook reader. While the basic one isn’t reduced (it’s hard to imagine it could drop much further in price), both the Paperwhite and Oasis see handsome reductions. A Paperwhite will now set you back just £74.99, while the usually prohibitively expensive Oasis is slightly less prohibitive at £179.99.

Then there’s the Amazon Echo: the speaker/virtual assistant that will play your music, set alarms, update you on the weather and tell you jokes. The main Echo speaker is £59.99, down from £89.99; and if you already have a decent speaker system to piggyback off, the Echo Dot is just £29.99, instead of the usual £49.99. If you like your Echo to have a screen for video calls and the like, then you’ll be wanting to check out the Echo Spot (£89.99, down from £129.99) or better still, the Echo Show which is £99.99 instead of the usual £199.99.

Finally, there are the Fire TV sticks. This lets you stream the likes of Netflix, iPlayer and – of course – Amazon video to your TV via an HDMI port. The standard stick is down to £24.99 from £39.99, while the 4K model is £39.99 instead of the usual £69.99.

Catch all that? Never mind, here they are again:
