Nikon adds three new Coolpix cameras for 2013

Nikon has added three new digital cameras to its Coolpix range, launching the P520, S9500 and L820 at the CP+ photography show in Japan today. With a mix of compact and super-zoom models, there should be something in the new range to suit every photographer.

The Coolpix P520 is largely unchanged from last year’s P510, although it’s now compatible with Nikon’s optional WU-1a wireless mobile adaptor for on-the-go uploads. It has a 42x optical zoom lens and an 18.1-megapixel CMOS sensor for an equivalent focal length of 24-1000m. It also has a new Vibration Reduction image stabilisation function to help smooth out video clips, which can be captured at Full HD resolution. The 3.2in LCD display is hinge-mounted for easier composition at awkward angles, and the camera includes integrated GPS. It will be available in black, red or silver from late February, for around £400.

A second super-zoom, the Coolpix L820, joins the line-up with a 30x optical zoom, 16-megapixel CMOS sensor and wide-angle 22.5mm setting for capturing those impressive vistas. It uses the same Vibration Reduction image stabilisation technology and has a 3in LCD on the back for shot composition.

Finally, the Coolpix S9500 compact squeezes an 18.1-megapixel, back illuminated CMOS sensor and a 22x optical zoom lens with 25-550mm equivalent focal length into body small enough to slip in your pocket. It has integrated GPS and Wi-Fi for remote uploads and geo-tagging your photos, a 3in OLED touchscreen on the back and supports full HD video recording. It will launch later this year at around £300, in a choice of black, brown, plum, red and silver colours.
