Southampton and Glasgow have the “most frustrating” broadband in the UK
One in five web users in Southampton are frustrated by slow speeds and poor reliability, according to a new report
Trying to get online in Southampton and Glasgow is leaving local residents feeling stressed.
Research from Zen Internet has found that a fifth of internet users in Southampton (20%) and Glasgow (18%) are fed up with their broadband service because it’s slow and unreliable.
Nearly half of the frustrated respondents (47% in Southampton and 46% in Glasgow) cited slow speeds as the biggest issue with their internet provider, while two in five said they regularly experience an unreliable service.
The results come from a survey of 2,000 users in which respondents were also asked what matters most when searching for an internet service provider. Speed is the most important feature in Liverpool, Southampton and Manchester, while reliability is a dealbreaker in Nottingham, Plymouth and Brighton.

“UK consumers are too often let down by slow speeds and poor reliability – with too many providers falling short of expectations,” said Richard Tang, Founder and Chairman of Zen. “Sluggish or unreliable internet service is damaging to both productivity and satisfaction and must be addressed urgently by the industry.”
The data also revealed which cities spend the most time online, with Belfast topping the group spending an average of 10 hours spent online a day. People in Bristol spend 9.9 hours a day online. In Sheffield, one in seven (17%) households spends more than 21 hours online a day, although the average was 9.8 hours, and users in Manchester surf for 9.6 hours a day.
