This cheap Xiaomi phone deal is unbelievable
It was mid-range perfection at £269, but at £229 it’s an absolute steal
If you’re looking for a cracking cheap phone deal this Black Friday, then the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro could be right up your alley. I should know: I gave it an Expert Reviews Best Buy award when I reviewed it back in March.
I reviewed the version with 64GB of built-in storage, but you could also get one with 128GB for an RRP £269. As part of the week of Black Friday sales, Amazon has chopped the price of the 128GB model by 15%, meaning you can get it for just £229. That makes it cheaper than the model I reviewed, and a staggeringly good deal.
Essentially, it’s a very good mid-range phone that pulls off Xiaomi’s usual trick of offering a lot of power for a reasonable price. In terms of performance, the phone’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G processor and 6GB RAM makes it a good performer in day-to-day use, and it even has a 120Hz screen – something Apple didn’t embrace with the iPhone until September!
To be clear, that’s where the comparisons with iPhones should end – this is a budget handset, after all – but it’s very good value for the money involved. The screen and camera are both superb for the price, and you certainly get a lot more for your money than you would get on an equivalently priced Samsung or Sony handset.
The only real fly in the ointment is a lack of 5G. That may or may not be a problem for you – for me, personally, it isn’t. Even here in South London, spots of 5G reception are fleeting, and hardly worth basing your whole phone-buying strategy on in my view.
“I’m having a hard time thinking of any serious drawbacks to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro, unless you have an aversion to the company’s cartoony MIUI Android skin,” I concluded in my review back in March. “Yes, we don’t have a UK price yet, but assuming it’s under £300 – as it should be given the US RRP is $279 – then it’s a fantastic pick with decent performance, an incredible screen and superb photographic abilities.”
Spoiler: it was well below £300, making it an absolute steal. Now at closer to £200, it’s even more worthy of our recommendation. If you want the speed and 120Hz screen, then Xiaomi is the way to go.
