15in Apple MacBook Air announced for 2023

You’re going to need a bigger laptop bag

Apple has just unveiled a new, larger variant of the MacBook Air for 2023. Shown off during its opening keynote at this year’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), the 15in MacBook Air represents the first time Apple has increased the screen size of its beloved ultra-thin laptop to such a large size.

To be clear, this isn’t a major refresh. The 15in MacBook Air incorporates the same internal components as the regular 13.6in model. Apple’s own M2 silicon powers things, with the company claiming that it’s 12x faster than the fastest Intel-based MacBook Air.

MagSafe charging makes an appearance yet again, alongside the pair of Thunderbolt 3 ports and 3.5mm headphone jack. It’s just 11.5mm thin, which Apple says makes it the “world’s thinnest” 15in laptop. It’s pretty darn light, too, at a mere 1.36kg, with a quoted battery life of up to 18 hours.

Let’s talk about that large Liquid Retina display. According to Apple, it actually measures 15.3in across the diagonal, with a notch in the top centre housing the 1080p webcam.

The screen borders are just 5mm in thickness and the display is capable of reaching a peak brightness of 500 nits, with support for 1 billion colours.

The MacBook Air 15 comes in four finishes, including Midnight and Starlight, and starts at £1,399. The regular 13in MacBook Air has also received a slight price reduction and now costs £1,149 (a saving of £100).

Apple’s newest MacBook Air is available to preorder today, with a release scheduled for next week. Watch this space for our full review shortly.
