Nokia X2 android smartphone adds second sim for €99

Only a few months after announcing the Nokia X range at Mobile World Congress, Nokia has revealed a successor. The X2 smartphone was announced first thing this morning, after weeks of teasing and sneak previews, and will be going on sale imminently in selected territories.

Announced on the official Nokia blog, the Nokia X2 is a 4.3in handset that borrows heavily from the first Nokia X devices in terms of design, albeit with a new transparent outer layer reminiscent of the Asha 503. Black, green and orange colours will be available at launch, with dark grey, white and yellow joining the line-up later in the year.

Inside you’ll find a dual-core Snapdragon 200 processor running at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, a five-megapixel rear camera and a 1800mAh battery, which improves on the meagre specs of the initial Nokia X handsets. It also includes dual SIM card slots, which should prove popular on the continent. The screen resolution stays at a fairly low 800×480 pixels, however.

The other major change is the addition of a home button at the bottom of the handset. The initial Nokia X range only had a back button, which confused some users that were familiar with the traditional Android layout, so the extra button should make navigation a little simpler.

As before, Nokia has completely overhauled Google’s mobile OS with its own custom user interface, which is very reminiscent of the Windows Phone operating system that powered the company’s previous Lumia devices before Microsoft bought out its devices division.

Nokia has confirmed the Nokia X2 will be going on sale immediately in certain territories for €99 (roughly £80/$135), although we’re still waiting to hear confirmation of a UK release date.
