Amazon kicks off Prime Day early with HUGE Kindle Paperwhite discount
Prime Day doesn't start until tomorrow – but Amazon is slashing prices on own-brand tech early
The latest Kindle Paperwhite is cheaper than ever right now at Amazon. Having broadcast the start date of this year’s Prime Day sales event as 13 October, Amazon has chosen to upend the schedule, launching a slew of Amazon-branded device deals an entire day early. At this rate, we should be calling it the Prime Long Weekend.
Buried beneath mountains of smart speaker deals is this excellent discount on perhaps the best-known Kindle e-book reader. Currently just £80 for Amazon Prime members, the 2020 edition of the Kindle Paperwhite has never been cheaper; the same goes for the Paperwhite model that omits the so-called “special offers” (aka adverts), which is currently on offer for £90, down from £130.
In fact, there are quite a few options here (including four colours) but no matter the model, the whopping £40 discount stays the same. Up the onboard storage to 32GB and you’ll pay £110, down from £150; throw in a free 4G LTE connection and it’ll cost you £180, down from £220. Be sure to take advantage of the free 3-month Kindle Unlimited subscription, too – it’s available on all configurations.
For the uninitiated, the Kindle Paperwhite is an e-book reader that uses a 6in, high-resolution e-ink display. With access to Amazon’s vast library of e-books, the Paperwhite has just about every work of fiction and non-fiction available for download over Wi-Fi or (if you pay a little extra) free, no-commitment 4G.
As one of Amazon’s more expensive e-book readers, the Paperwhite has a few clever tricks up its sleeve. Aside from free 4G connectivity, the Paperwhite is also IPX8-rated for dust- and water-resistance, meaning it’ll function in up to 2m of water for up to 60 minutes. It also has built-in Bluetooth and support for Audible, meaning you can swap from reading to listening via a pair of headphones or a Bluetooth speaker.
Courtesy of the low-consumption display, the Paperwhite’s battery will run for up to six weeks on a single charge. The only slight downside is that charging takes around 3 hours from empty – the Paperwhite is rather irritatingly still stuck using microUSB.
That’s really the only drawback, though. Otherwise, we cannot recommend this Prime-exclusive offer enough. Just remember that you will need an Amazon Prime subscription to access the deal; you can sign up for free via this link.
