Amazon Halo View announced with AMOLED screen and seven-day battery life
Amazon finally adds a screen to Halo, and updates its health and fitness subscription service – but a UK release is uncertain
Amazon’s display-less fitness band, Halo, first launched in the US at the end of last year and while it never made its way across the Atlantic, Amazon has already announced that there’s a brand-new model on the way. Called Halo View, Amazon’s newest fitness tracker comes with an AMOLED screen and launches alongside upgrades to Amazon’s paid-for Halo subscription service.

Starting with the Halo View, Amazon says this new fitness band is useful for viewing at-a-glance health metrics, such as activity and sleep scores, blood oxygen levels and live workout tracking. It gathers all of this data through the use of a variety of sensors, including an HR monitor, skin temperature sensor and an accelerometer.
Like its predecessor, the Halo View is also swim-proof, with a seven-day battery life and is able to charge from zero to full in 90 minutes. It costs $80, which is $20 less than the display-less model. It comes with a choice of 15 different sport bands, eight fabric bands, two leather bands as well as metal band options.
At the event, Amazon also talked at great length about its Halo subscription service. You get a free year’s worth of access if you buy a Halo View, and this includes the new Halo Fitness and Halo Nutrition features.
According to Amazon, Halo Fitness grants access to “studio-quality” live workouts from professional coaches on your TV, tablet or smartphone and you can choose from a variety of different classes, including cardio, strength, yoga and mobility classes. This integrates nicely with your Halo View as well, with a health stats overly displayed in the corner of the workout you’re watching.
Halo Nutrition is pitched as a healthy-eating tool, and this allows you to track what you’re eating and build tailored meal plans according to your preferences and dietary requirements. Subscribers can also scroll through a library of more than 500 recipes, and add ingredients straight to your Amazon Fresh shopping list.
Halo Fitness features will start rolling out to existing subscribers in the US later this year, with Halo Nutrition launching in 2022. Halo View is expected to launch in the US by the end of the year, but Amazon has announced that it won’t be launching globally – at least for the foreseeable future.
