Viewsonic VG2437mc review

The ViewSonic VG2437mc is a highly versatile 24in business monitor with a Full HD display, integrated web-cam and a rotating, height-adjustable stand.

It’s also one of the tallest height-adjustable monitors we’ve tested, as you can position it anywhere between 115mm and 255mm. This gave us enough height to rotate into portrait mode without running the risk of knocking the edge of the screen against the stand. Even when we didn’t leave enough room, we were pleased to see it didn’t leave any marks or scratches on the base, which is a common flaw on many other rotatable monitors.

Its colour accuracy was exactly what we’d expect from an IPS panel. At its default settings, our colour calibrator showed it was displaying 96 per cent of the sRGB colour gamut. It was very slightly short on its red and blue coverage, but we managed to increase this to a much more respectable 97.7 per cent after calibration. We still couldn’t increase its red coverage very much, but we were able to close the gap on the lighter and darker blue colour spaces.

It’s not quite as impressive as the similarly priced BenQ BL2410PT’s 99.9 per cent, but it didn’t make too much of an impact in our solid colour image tests. Reds, greens and blues weren’t quite as bright and vivid as our reference screen, but they were all very rich and uniformly lit across the screen. Blacks were similarly deep, reflecting our low black level measurement of 0.27cd/m². It wasn’t completely perfect, though. Whites tended toward the grey end of the spectrum, and we saw saw some backlight bleeding along the bottom edge of the screen.

We measured an excellent contrast ratio of 880:1 at its default settings. All the photos in our high contrast test showed very high levels of detail in both the light and dark areas of each image and colours retained their intensity without looking too washed out.

It has DisplayPort, DVI-D and VGA inputs, but no HDMI input, which is a little disappointing. It does, however, have two USB2 ports, a 3.5mm headphone output, a 3.5mm audio line in, a 3.5mm microphone input and a 3.5mm microphone output as well. It has integrated 2W stereo speakers, too, but they sound tinny.

The Viewsonic VG2437mc may be one of the few rotatable IPS monitors available for less than £200, but the award-winning BenQ BL2410PT also rotates, but has better colour accuracy, superior contrast and deeper black levels. The Viewsonic is a fraction cheaper, but unless you’re looking for something particularly slim, the BenQ is the better buy.
