AOC myUltraSpeed G2460Pqu review

The AOC G2460Pqu is a 24in gaming monitor with a large 144Hz refresh rate. The main benefit of a high refresh rate is a reduction of the tearing (two or more frames appearing onscreen simultaneously) that can occur when your graphics card outputs more frames than your monitor can display. This leads to much smoother visuals if you have a powerful graphics card, but you’ll need to use the bundled dual-link DVI-D cable to take advantage of it as the monitor’s other VGA, HDMI and DisplayPort inputs can’t currently reach the same speeds.

We certainly didn’t see any problems when we tested the monitor with Half Life 2 as everything looked silky smooth even when we turned sharply to shoot enemies. This monitor also has easily accessible built-in a four-port USB2 hub and separate headphone and microphone jacks.

The G2460Pqu’s image quality wasn’t great. Our measurements showed the monitor was displaying an sRGB colour gamut of just 84.5 per cent. Green, reds and cyans were main areas of weakness, but blues and magentas were strong, which made the screen look cool compared to our reference monitor. Fortunately, screen calibration increased red coverage, but its overall coverage of 87.8 per cent was still a little underwhelming. The screen looked much warmer, but we couldn’t greens any further. This had a knock-on effect in our subjective image tests, as greens were noticeably less deep and rich on the G2460Pqu than our reference monitor. Blacks were average too.
