HTC Desire 610 announced – specs and features detailed

HTC Desire 610

A smart-looking phone that should popular with music and video fans

HTC may be holding fire on its new flagship handset, but it does have some intriguing new handsets to talk about at MWC this year. This HTC Desire 610 looks to take on the hugely popular (and possibly soon to be discontinued Motorola Moto G). We’ve no pricing yet but based on the specs this looks to be a lower mid-range handset that should please a lot of people.

Compared to the Moto G, the HTC Desire 610 has a slightly larger 4.7in screen but with a lower 960×540 resolution. It matches the budget smash though with its 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400, quad-core chipset. There’s also 1GB of RAM onboard.

The 8GB internal storage capacity is boosted by a micro SD card slot, something that’s become rarer of late. It’s a huge boon for music and video fans who can add up to 128GB of storage for their media libraries. Another thing that will please them is the stereo, front-facing speakers.

The camera is an 8-meagpixel example with a reasonable F2.4 aperture and a backlit sensor. The front camera is 1.3 megapixel. Nothing special here, though it should outperform the 5-megapixel camera on the Moto G.

The battery capacity is roughly the same at 2,040mAh, so it should last all day. 4G/LTE is fitted though, a good thing but it will drain the battery quicker.

It’s not the slimmest handset, measuring 143x71x9.6mm, but it weighs a fairly insignificant 143.5g.

We’re hard to impress since the £130 Moto G blew away our expectations of a ‘budget’ smartphone. That said, we’re hoping the HTC Desire 610 comes in below the £200 mark, where its additional storage capacity, stereo speakers and hopefully sharper camera will give it nice little niche to call its own.
