Team Lotus buys Caterham
Brighter future for the super-light sportscar maker
Caterham, the manufacturer of super-light sports cars has been bought by Team Lotus Enterprise, the company behind the Team Lotus Formula 1 team.
The move is good news for the Kent-based manufacturer, which will see more resources enable it to expand its business and promote its cars to a wider audience.
“Caterham has a unique place at the heart of the motoring world. As well as being proudly and staunchly British, it has an enviable and uniquely unblemished reputation within the industry for performance, handling and engineering excellence,” said Tony Fernandes, the head of Team Lotus Enterprise.
To celebrate the new ownership, Caterham will build a limited run of Team Lotus Special Edition Sevens. Costing an additional £3,000 over the cost of your chosen vehicle, the Team Lotus editions will get you a tour of the Team Lotus F1 factory, Team Lotus-inspired livery and a plaque inside with the signatures of Team Lotus F1 drivers Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kivalainen.
Just 25 of the special edition cars will be put on sale in the UK, with 25 more being sold as export models worldwide.
“This is yet another exciting chapter in the Caterham story. Until now, the resources Caterham has had at its disposal have, naturally, limited the exposure of the Caterham experience and the legendary Seven has had to rely almost entirely on its remarkable reputation and legacy,” said Ansar Ali, MD of Caterham Cars.
