Black Friday laptop deals 2023 – LIVE: Cyber Monday discounts from Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Asus and more

Black Friday - Laptop Deals - LIVE - Lead image

Black Friday week is in full swing and these are today's best laptop savings

Black Friday may have passed but it’s now Cyber Monday and the laptop deals are still going strong. Whether you’re looking for a 2-in-1, a premium ultraportable, gaming machine or a Chromebook, there’s bound to be some money off it somewhere today – this is the best time of year to buy a laptop of any shape or size.

However, it’s also very easy to make a mistake under the time pressure of a deal that “expires soon” and to buy the wrong thing. It’s made doubly hard with so many deals and so many different products on sale, especially if you don’t know your 10th Gen Intel CPUs from your 13th Gen, how much storage or RAM you need, or what sort of display you should be looking for.

That’s where we come in. We have years of experience testing and reviewing laptops, so it’s far simpler for us to know when a deal is worth your money and when you shouldn’t bother. And we’ll be keeping you up to date on the good stuff, as we find it.

So if you’re seeking a new laptop – for whatever reason – keep this page bookmarked. We’ll be updating it regularly throughout the day:

HP’s Black Friday sale is well worth checking out

If you’ve exhausted the usual retailer suspects in your hunt for the best laptop deals, it’s well worth going to the manufacturers direct. HP, in particular, has a number of scorching deals going this Black Friday, not least on its Pavilion range of 2-in-1 convertible laptops.

The HP Pavilion x360 14-ek1000na, in particular, is a stonking deal at £499, which is £300 off the list price – that price gets you a machine with a 13th Gen Intel Core i5-1335U CPU inside, 8GB of RAM and a sizeable 512GB SSD, plus a 14in IPS Full HD touchscreen.

Aspire to a better laptop this Cyber Monday

Acer’s Aspire range of laptops may be the company’s most basic when it comes to build quality and desirability but you tend to get plenty for your money. And this model, which averages £433 in price, is offering even better value at a measly £399.

Acer Aspire 3 Spin Cyber Monday deal

That gets you a 2-in-1 machine with a 14in 1,920 x 1,200 resolution IPS touchscreen, an Intel Core i3-N305 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. That’s a pretty impressive lineup for the money.

The Black Friday sales extend well beyond the day itself

If you’d been meaning to take advantage of the Black Friday sales last week there’s no need to panic. Most retailers’ sales are still on and they don’t end until mid-week at the earliest. Here’s a quick list of some of the retailers and manufacturers whose sales are still on and when they’re ending:

An extra £100 off the Asus Chromebook Vibe CX34 Flip!

Look carefully on the product page for the Vive CX34 Flip at Very and you’ll see that you can get an EXTRA £100 off if you enter the code VKEZW at the checkout. We didn’t spot this at first when posting the deal earlier, but can confirm the code does indeed work and that it bring the overall price down to a ludicrously low £399. That makes it the deal of the day and very nearly the best deal we’ve seen over the Black Friday period!

The 15in M2 MacBook Air is cheaper at Amazon

We’re not going to lie to you: the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals on MacBooks haven’t been brilliant this year. In fact, the price on the 15in M2 MacBook Air is pretty much the same now as it has been for a few months at Amazo. However, it would also be remiss of us not to point out that the current price for the model with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD is £150 less than it is at the Apple store – that’s a pretty good price for a laptop this good and a price that’s unlikely to fall significantly lower in the foreseeable future.

An RTX 4060 latop for LESS

Laptops equipped with Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4060 GPU like this MSI Cyborg 15 machine have, thus far in 2023, been fairly thin on the ground at under £1,000 but Black Friday and now Cyber Monday prices have seen a number of offers hovering at around that level.

This deal gets you a laptop with the RTX 4060 chip, accompanied by an Intel Core i7-12650H CPU, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD for good measure, and adds a 15.6in 144Hz IPS Full HD display into the bargain for a price of £849. That’s a saving of around £150 on the average price at Amazon since launch.

A premium Chromebook that’s well worth owning

We never tire of banging on about Chromebooks here at Expert Reviews. If you get a good one, it will last you years and will keep on going long after your Windows machine has slowed to the point of unusability. Plus, you usually get a lot more bang for your buck.

Asus Chromebook Vibe CX34 flip

The Asus Chromebook Vibe CX34 Flip is one of those machines. Reduced in price to just £499 right now from its list price of  £699, this is a Chromebook aimed at those with games streaming subscriptions and it has a specification to match. It comes with a bright, 144Hz 14in 1,920 x 1,200 resolution touchscreen, an Intel Core i5-1235U CPU, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD – that’s a pretty impressive lineup of components for less than £500 and, thanks to the fact that Google’s now provides updates for ten years for Chromebooks made from 2021 onwards, it’s guaranteed to deliver many years of useful service, too.

It’s Cyber Monday (not Black Friday) but there are still plenty of deals around this morning

And our first deal of the day is on the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1, which has dropped even further in price over the weekend from an already tempting £839 to a ridiculously low £673. This is a brilliant detachable 2-in-1 Windows laptop. It’s slim and light, comes with the keyboard case included and it’s significantly cheaper even than the Microsoft Surface Pro 9 bundle deal, which sees the keyboard included for £899.

Maximum frame rates for minimum cash

If you want the maximum on-screen frame rate for the least amount of money then you should take a good look at the Gigabyte Aorus 17H, which has a 17.3in Full HD 360Hz 3ms G2G display, an Nvidia RTX 4080 GPU and, thanks to Currys’ Black Friday offering, a £301 discount taking it down to £1,949. It’s as close to a perfect eSports machine as we can imagine.

As well as excellent gaming performance, the 99.9Wh battery makes this a usable machine away from a power socket. It has Windows Hello facial recognition, which is very rare on gaming machines, and per-key RGB keyboard illumination. Running the show is an Intel Core i7-13700H CPU with 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD.

Two new Predators on the loose and on sale now

Acer has just unlocked two new deals on its 16in Predator Helios gaming machines with £400 off both the RTX 4060 / Intel Core i7-13700HX and RTX 4080 / Core i9-13900HX models taking them down to £1,599 and £2,599 respectively. If you are a serious gamer neither machine is likely to disappoint at these prices.

The RTX 4060 model is particularly tasty for that price with a 1TB SSD, 2,560 x 1,600 240Hz IPS display and 32GB of RAM. Beyond the faster gaming performance from the more potent GPU, the RTX 4080 model also comes with a Mini-LED 250Hz panel and a 2TB SSD.

Look for a great deal on a MacBook Air? M2

I said earlier in the week that you wouldn’t have to wait until Black Friday for the best price on the M2 MacBook Air but I was wrong. Sort of. It’s now a MASSIVE ;-) £20 cheaper than it was on Wednesday, which is a saving that’s just bout worth having.

M2 Apple MacBook Air deal

This is one of our favourite laptops of all time. It has great performance, great battery life and, as usual with Apple laptops, it’s beautifully made. This model is the base variant and comes with 8GB of RAM, the M2 CPU and a 256GB SSD. Top that with a decent 1080p webcam, excellent speakers and a good microphone and you have one of the most capable 13.6in laptops ever made.

A great discount on the latest all-AMD gaming laptop

We’ve just finished our review of the new Asus TUF Gaming A16 Advantage Edition and now you can pick it up for just £949, a discount of £250. For that, you get a 165Hz 1,920 x 1,200 display, a great keyboard, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, but you can easily add more RAM and a second SSD if you need to.

Advantage Edition means this is an all-AMD machine with a Ryzen 7 735HS octacore CPU and an RX 7600S GPU. It’s the first time we’ve run games using AMD’s new FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 upscaling and we were very, very impressed by the results. These AMD systems also have other tricks up their sleeves like the ability of the CPU to access the 8GB of video RAM if needed.

Go get this deal on a sub-£500 OLED laptop

The Asus Vivobook Go 15 can be picked with either an IPS or OLED display but it’s obviously the latter  you really want so it’s handy that John Lewis has dropped the price to £449 from around £599. That’s cheap as chips for a laptop with an HDR True Black 500-certified OLED display that can hit 600cd/m2 in HDR mode.

Performance from the AMD Ryzen 5 7520U is solid and there’s 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. The Go 15 also meets the US MIL-STD 810H military-grade standard for withstanding shock and particle resistance. It’s a nice-looking laptop, too.

The best budget laptops to buy this Black Friday

If you haven’t got much cash to spend, Black Friday is a minefield. There are lots of cheap laptops but not many are actually good deals. Most are old and many won’t perform particularly well. If you don’t know what you’re looking at, it’s very easy to buy the wrong thing. Instead of taking the risk, just dive into our top five budget Black Friday laptop deals. None are particularly sexy but they are all solid machines that will do the job:

Tougher than the rest – and now cheaper

Technically, the Acer Enduro Urban N3 is pretty dull with its Core i5-1135G7 CPU, 14in Full HD display and 512GB SSD but it comes into its own when you drop it, or drop things on it, like a cup of coffee, because it consists of an interesting combination of elements making it super tough. Right now it’s £200 off at £799 down from £999.

With substantial plastic bumpers on each corner, snap-on covers for all ports as well as MIL-STD-810H and IP53 resistance to particle and water ingress and a bright screen for outdoor use, the Enduro Urban N3 really is a tough little blighter and perfect for use in the urban or actual jungle. Unlike most other rugged laptops it’s not a massive lump, weighing a reasonable 1.85kg and it’s only 22mm thick.

A great deal on a new G16

Like most gaming laptop makers Dell is transitioning from 15.6in 15:9 to 16in 16:10 screens and the pick of the bunch from its G-series lineup is the new RTX 4070 Dell G16, which is on sale today for £1,399 – a saving of £350.

Dell G16 Black Friday deal

That’s a very, very sweet deal for a laptop with a 100% DCI-P3 2,560 x 1,600 240Hz display, 1TB SSD, 32GB of RAM and a 24-core Intel Core i9-13900HX CPU. Inside you’ll find two SODIMM and two M.2 PCIe x4 slots, one 30mm and one 80mm, making it easy to upgrade.

A HUGE discount on this Lenovo gamer

This Black Friday you can pick up a Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16 with one of AMD’s storming new Dragon Range CPUs inside for just £2,048, or £502 off the usual price. The combination of a 16-core AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX CPU and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 GPU delivers stunning but surprisingly efficient gaming performance.

To match the cutting-edge silicon you also get a 240Hz 16in HDR400 2,560 x 1,600 display, 32GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. Granted that last is a bit measly for the price but there is a second SSD slot inside so adding more storage is easy enough. There’s also a 1080p webcam and a big 99.9Wh battery.

Here’s another high-end gaming laptop discount

Asus has just shaved £450 off the price of its ROG Strix SCAR 16 laptop, taking it down to just £2,899. “Just”? Yup, because this is the model with the RTX 4080 GPU and the trick Nebula HDR Mini-LED display. When we reviewed it six months ago it cost £3,399.

Despite some strong competition from the likes of Alienware and MSI we still think the SCAR 16 is the quintessential gaming laptop thanks to an unbeatable combination of looks, performance and pedigree. The awesome 240Hz display, Core i9-13980HX CPU and top-notch speaker system deserve mention, too.

Be quick to get this Swift offer

Acer is now knocking out its pretty awesome Swift Edge OLED at a £500 discount! When we tested it we loved the sumptuous OLED display, potent AMD chipset, wide selection of I/O ports and the fact it weighs next to nothing.

The M1 MacBook Air is nearly back at its lowest price

The M1 MacBook Air dropped to its lowest price ever (around £770) in the summer of 2023 very briefly and it’s now nearly that cheap again on Black Friday.

The price is £799, which gets you the model with an M1 chip, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. This machine might be a little long in the tooth now – it was launched in 2020 – but it’s still a highly capable laptop with GREAT battery life.

Here’s a sharp price cut on a Katana gaming laptop

When we tested the MSI Katana 15, the slightly drab display and woeful battery life meant it was only a recommendation at the right price, and now thanks to a £200 discount in the Currys Black Friday sale the price is very right at just £850. That’s a solid price for a laptop with a 1TB SSD, an Intel Core i7-13620H processor, 16GB of RAM and the option to add more of both the former and latter.

Other things we liked about the Katana 15 included the keyboard, the performance from the RTX 4050 GPU, the quiet but efficient cooling system and the speakers which were really rather good. The 15.6in Full HD IPS screen should ideally be brighter, more colourful and faster, but for an £850 laptop it’s not bad.

Black Friday is HERE

And the laptop deals continue apace. Our first of the day is from Dell on the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus, which has a discount of £200 that brings the price down from £1,129 to £929. That’s a very keen asking price for what is an extremely versatile laptop and – at just 1.7kg – a light, compact laptop.

Inspiron 14 Plus Black Friday deal

For your money you get an RTX 4050 GPU, a ten-core Intel Core i7-13620H CPU, a whopping 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. The display, meanwhile, is a 14in 2,560 x 1,600 90Hz affair that should lend itself well to a bit of surreptitious gaming. There’s also a good selection of ports and a 64Wh battery.

3D for less than 3 grand!

In our opinion, the 3D SpatialLabs version of Acer’s Predator Helios laptop was a near miss, but now there’s a ‘version 2’ with a more powerful Nvidia RTX 4080 GPU, Raptor Lake Core i9 CPU and a much stronger list of supported games. Best of all, the new model is £500 off in Acer’s Black Friday sale, taking it down to a more palatable £2,799.

The downside is still that the 15.6in 3,840 x 2,160 screen still only runs at 60Hz, but that’s because, in effect, it’s running two 1,920 x 1,080 images side by side, so it’s actually having to render at 120Hz. If you can live with the 60Hz rendering – and all bar eSports fans probably can – it’s a technical tour de force for the money.

A foldable LG Gram at a knock-down price

If you’re all about saving weight there’s an LG Gram laptop to suit most occasions and they all weigh next to nothing. The most versatile, but ironically also the heaviest (you can only do much to make big strong hinges light), is the 2-in-1 version of the LG gram 16 – a 16in convertible that weighs just 1.48kg – is now on sale in Curry’s Black Friday event for £1,399 rather than the usual £1,949.

With an Intel Core i7-1360P processor, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, the LG Gram 16 is a very useful bit of kit and the 16in 2,560 x 1,600 touchscreen looks good. LG also throws a Wacom AES 2.0 pen into the deal. The sub-1.5kg weight is all the more impressive when you realise it has an 80Wh battery inside, which should deliver a decent wedge of battery life.

The best affordable Chrome 2-in-1

Since we reviewed the Lenovo IdeaPad Duet it’s got a little bigger and a little more powerful, but at £249 in Amazon’s Black Friday deals (that’s down from an average of £365) it hasn’t got any more expensive. Built around an excellent 10.95in 2,000 x 1,200 IPS touchscreen and with a bundled stylus and keyboard the Duet perfectly demonstrates how useful ChromeOS is with a touch UI.

The best-value Windows tablet gets a Black Friday price cut

Windows tablets are an imperfect breed for too many reasons for us to go into here, but if you want on – and we’d agree they are the lightest, smallest way to get the full Windows experience – then Dell’s XPS 13 2-in-1 is the best there is, especially now that you can get one for £839 which is a 30% discount off the regular price.

We like the excellent 13in 2,880 x 1,920 Gorilla Glass-topped touchscreen and the bundled zero lattice keyboard, which is a dream to type on with large keycaps and a surprisingly positive action. Performance is good, too, thanks to the Intel Core i5-1230U CPU with 8GB of RAM. At 740g, Windows has seldom weighed less.

The Conservationist Chromebook

Acer’s eco-friendly Vero laptops aren’t just for Windows users, there’s also a model running Google’s ChromeOS and for Black Friday you can pick up the best version with the larger 256GB SSD for £349, £250 off the regular price. You save money while the 30% recycled content helps save the planet. Winner, winner.

Acer Chromebook Vero 514 Black Friday deal

While not officially a Plus or Gaming Chromebook, the Vero can match the specs of either thanks to its Intel Core i5-1235U chip, 8GB of RAM and 14in Full HD IPS display. The unpainted plastic body has a textured finish and an unusual but attractive speckled colour scheme and, being unpainted, it should stay looking good for longer than a more conventionally coated laptop.

Pretty, oh so pretty

Should you buy a laptop on looks alone? Of course not, but if all else is equal, why buy a plain or ugly one? Make no mistake, the Asus Zenbook S 13 is a very, very, VERY pretty laptop. It’s also extremely light at only a smidge over 1kg, supper-thin at a mere 11.8mm and has a gorgeous 13.3in 2.8K OLED display. And right now it’s £400 off, so yours for just £1,199.

With a 1TB SSD, 16GB of RAM and an Intel Core i7-1355U processor it’s no wallflower and the battery life – over ten and a half hours in our test – is impressive for a Windows laptop. US MIL-STD-810H military-grade standard toughness and a smart but practical plasma ceramic aluminium finish are the cherries on the cake. Lovely.

High-end gaming for LESS

What does the perfect eSports laptop need? We reckon a 360Hz display, an RTX 4060 GPU and a price tag not far north of £1,000 are three pretty vital aspects. Drum roll. That’s the Dell G15 we’ve just described, which is now on sale for £1,099, £200 off the usual price. Add a 1TB SSD and 86Wh battery into the deal and it becomes even more attractive.

Dell G15 Black Friday deal

For the price, no other laptop has a display anything near as fast as the 15.6in Full HD 360Hz, 1ms G2G, panel that Dell is offering. Spend an hour playing Apex Legends on this and you’ll never want to change to another laptop. Dell isn’t even palming you off with a less-than-perfect CPU to keep the price down: the Intel Core i7-13650HX in this G15 is perfect for the job.

A great deal on a design classic

Finally, Dell has added the beautiful, unique and hugely desirable Dell XPS 13 Plus to its Black Friday deals. And it’s the fully specified model, with 32GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD and a 13.4in, 3.5K 3,456 x 2,160 OLED touchscreen. For £1,549 (a not-to-be-sniffed-at £250 saving) you’re getting a superb compact laptop that looks like no other. Thanks to an Intel Core i7-1360P CPU it’s pretty sprightly, too.

The zero-lattice keyboard and capacitive function keys have divided opinion since launch, but we love them. The minimalist port selection of just two USB-Cs and no audio jack are harder to defend but we didn’t find either to be issues in the long term. If you haven’t picked up on it yet, this is one of our favourite laptops.

Vivat! Vivat Vivobook!

As affordable do-it-all laptops go, it’s hard to beat Asus’ Vivobook Pro machines and today you can get the Pro 15 for £300 off, or just £1,199. Thanks to an RTX 4060 GPU and an AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS processor there’s not much the Pro 15 can’t do –and do quickly – and at only 1.8kg, it’s very portable.

Asus Vivobook 15 Black Friday deal

For this sort of money, you don’t get the high-end 2.8K OLED screen but the Full HD IPS panel isn’t at all bad and it refreshes at 144Hz, which is handy for gaming and graphics work. A USB 4 spec USB-C port means you can shunt big files on and off the Pro 15 in a heartbeat and the numeric keyboard is hard to fault. Top Black Friday value.

An RTX 4090 gaming laptop for less than three grand? ‘Nuff said

An RTX 4090 laptop for under three grand? No, we’re not having a giraffe. Very is punting the range-topping 17.3in version of MSI’s Raider for £2,999, or a massive £800 off the RRP. That’s a huge discount for a current model. As well as a 175W RTX 4090 GPU there’s a 2TB SSD and Intel’s monstrous 24-core Core i9-13980HX CPU.

You also get a SteelSeries keyboard, MUX switch, a 240Hz QHD+ display, six-speaker sound system and a Close Encounters light show. MSI’s big gaming laptops may not be the most refined on the market and battery life will be awful despite 99.9Wh of juice but when you are getting this much brute power for your money, who cares?

A lower price on the M2 Apple MacBook Air?

If you want the lowest price on the M2 MacBook Air, you probably won’t have to wait for Black Friday. It’s currently on sale at Amazon for £1,049 and we don’t expect it to get significantly cheaper, even on Black Friday itself. Either way, the current price is pretty good and secures the latest 13.6in model with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD for a £100 discount on the price at the Apple store.

If you love your laptops garish, this one is for you

MSI’s Raider laptops are hard-core gaming machines, from their high-end internal component choices right down to their SteelSeries keyboards and flashy RGB light shows and Currys has carved £600 off the price of the RTX 4060 Raider, dropping the price to just £1,299.

MSI Raider GE68 Black Friday deal

For that, you get a 16in Full HD 144Hz screen, a 16-core Core i7-13700HX processor, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. Despite being a big and solid machine it weighs just 2.7kg (not bad for a gaming machine of this ilk) and it has a good sound system. The battery life isn’t great but it never is on laptops like this. Stonkingly good value.

The best Windows 2-in-1 with a FREE keyboard included

This deal has been on for over a week now but it’s still one of the best we’ve seen. For £899,  you’re getting the Core i5 Surface Pro 9 Windows tablet and the Signature Keyboard for FREE.

That’s a package that would normally cost you £1,443, so this represents a whopping saving of £544. If you absolutely must have a 2-in-1 detachable, this is one of the very best at a supremely tempting price.

How to spot your own great laptop deals

We’d prefer it if you stayed here for your laptop deals guidance but, if you’ve been doing your own laptop deals hunting, how do you separate the good and great deals from the mediocre and downright bad? It’s not an easy task but if you follow a few key rules you should be okay:

  • Generally, avoid laptops costing less than £200 – they’re rarely very good
  • Stick to laptops with CPUs launched in the last two years (11th Gen Intel Core chips, 6000-series or later AMD Ryzen CPUs) – you can use Intel’s Ark CPU database to check this
  • Steer clear of machines with slow eMMC storage – SSDs and UFS flash drives are faster – and in small amounts. We recommend 128GB as the minimum for a Windows machine, otherwise you may struggle to download Windows update files
  • AVOID laptops with 4GB of RAM – 8GB should be the absolute minimum these days
  • Check battery ratings – if a manufacturer says the battery will last only five or six hours, believe it! This is not a laptop you’re going to want to use away from a power socket for too long
  • Check screen technology and brightness ratings – As a general rule of thumb, go for OLED or IPS screen technology over TN-based machines and opt for laptops with at least a 250-nit brightness rating (you can often find this in the specifications section). It doesn’t guarantee colour accuracy or good viewing angles but should ensure your laptop screen will be readable in reasonably bright ambient light.

Welcome to Black Thursday

Our first deal today is one of those offers that makes you think the retailer has found a load of stock in the warehouse it had forgotten about. This is the 2022 model Acer Predator Helios 300 with a 150W RTX 3070 GPU and an Intel Core i7-12700H but it’s on sale for just £1,099 or a massive £800 off the original RRP.

Eleven hundred quid is silly money for such a powerful laptop, especially when you also get a 2,560 x 1,440 165Hz display, a 1TB SSD and 16GB of RAM – and you can easily add more of both if you have a screwdriver to hand. At this price, forgoing DLSS3 really isn’t a big deal.

An XPS 15 that’s no longer so XPenSive

Dell’s XPS machines are amongst the finest premium laptops on the market and now Amazon is selling one of the most desirable models with a luscious 15.6in 3,840 x 2,160 OLED touchscreen for £1,799, reduced from a site-average £2,230. That’s a £431 saving.

In addition to the lovely lid-filling OLED panel and carbon-fibre keyboard deck, there’s a fairly potent specification, too, with an Intel Core i7-13700H CPU, Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 GPU and a 1TB SSD inside. At under 2kg, it’s also remarkably light for a full-sized laptop and the speaker system is noteworthy for both its volume and sound quality.

A Mini LED marvel for not much

Laptops with eyeball-melting super bright Mini-LED displays are not cheap, just look at the asking price for any MacBook Pro or Asus ROG laptop with one. But the MSI Prestige 16 Studio A13V 16 has just one such display and is now on sale for £949 (down from £1,499) – that’s massively cheaper than any alternative.

What separates the A13V from the herd is its that screen: A VESA DisplayHDR 1000-certified 165Hz 2,560 x 1,600 affair with a peak HDR brightness of 1,000cd/m2. It also has a 55W RTX 4060 GPU and an Intel Core i7-13620H processor and you get 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD into the bargain.

A MacBook Pro 16 alternative at a discount

If we had to pick a Windows alternative to the new MacBook Pro then Asus’ VivoBook Pro 16X creative powerhouse would be it. Even at full price it’s cheaper than the new M3 Apple machine, but for Black Friday AO has edited £501 from the price dropping it from £2,499 to £1,998.

With a 24-core Intel Core i9-13980HX processor, a 140W Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, 1TB of storage and a 16in 3,200 x 2,000, 120Hz OLED display, it’s not only brutally powerful but also a creative tool par excellence thanks to the Asus DialPad that’s built into the top-left corner of the touchpad.

A gaming laptop for LESS

The Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 laptops may be on the bottom rung of the ladder in terms of Lenovo’s GeForce GPU machines, but they still have a lot to offer, especially when you can buy the latest and most powerful model at Amazon for just £729, down from a historical average of £880 and an RRP of £1,049.

Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 Black Friday deal

Gaming and graphics performance is solid thanks to an 85W RTX 4050 GPU and the Full HD 15.6in display refreshes at 120Hz, which if a little low for eSports gaming is OK for pretty much everything else. The six-core AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS CPU is a solid and efficient performer and it will take two SSDs (one 80mm, and one 42mm). There’s only 8GB of RAM as standard but you can add more post-purchase.

Come this way for a great value Huawei

There’s an awful to like about the 2023 iteration of the Huawei MateBook 16s ultrabook, from the potent Intel Core i9-13900H CPU to the 1TB SSD and the 16in 2,520 x 1,680 IPS touchscreen to the beefy 84Wh battery. Top of the tree, though, is the price, which at the moment is £400 lower than it used to be at just £1,099. It’s an extra 10% off if you sign in and use the code A10HWBLACK at checkout.

The speaker system is outstanding, ranking with the MacBook Pro as one of the best around, while the keyboard is impossible to fault. It’s impressively powerful too, scoring a mighty 406 points in our standard 4K multi-media benchmark. All told, it’s one of the most capable, solid and pretty laptops on the market and at just over a bag-of-sand it’s very good value.

Small package gaming at a low price

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 line-up is the best range of compact (312 x 227 x 20mm, 1.7kg) gaming laptops on the market and Asus has ust chainsawed £500 off the price of the entry-level model so the diminutive size is now matched by an equally diminutive price of just £1,399.

For that, you get a 125W RTX 4060 GPU, an AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS processor, a 14in 2,560 x 1,600 165Hz display and a 512GB SSD. The only real downside is the absence of space for a second SSD. Here, then is the smallest laptop capable of handling the latest AAA titles in all their ray-traced glory at a very juicy price.

Ray Tracing gaming on the cheap

Can you get a modern gaming laptop for less than £600? Yes, and with surprisingly few caveats. Amazon has the RTX 3050 incarnation of the Dell G15 on sale for a mere £599, a whopping 25% discount from the average price of £797. The RTX 3050 won’t let you play the likes of Cyberpunk 2077 with all the settings turned up to 11, but it will let you play it at lower settings, and less demanding titles such as Wolfenstein: Youngblood will run just fine, even with Ray Tracing light effects. For the price, that’s all you can realistically expect.

Dell G15 5530 Black Friday deal

The CPU is the bang-up-to-date ten-core Intel Core i5-13450HX, and the Full HD screen refreshes at 120Hz. You only get 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, which is not really enough in either case but you can add a second SSD (and upgrade the first) and up the RAM to 32GB after purchase. The keyboard is a spacious affair with a four-zone RGB backlight.

The display is a decent 15.6in Full HD IPS panel, the Intel Core i3-N305 chip is quick and modern, and there’s 128GB of SSD storage and a full numeric keyboard. ‘Cor blimey – a super-cheap Core i laptop

If you want a good but cheap Windows laptop, a useful rule of thumb is to make sure it runs on a modern, ideally 2023 spec, Intel Core i CPU. The cheapest we’ve found that fits that bill is Acer’s little Aspire 3, which is built around an Intel Core i3-N305 processor, a tidy 8-core, 15W 3.8GHz Alder Lake component launched earlier this year.

Acer Aspire 3 14in Black Friday deal

For just £269 (that’s £160 off the RRP) you also get a 14in Full HD IPS (yes, IPS) display, a 128GB SSD, 8GB of RAM and a USB-C port which supports both charging and video output. The best cheap Black Friday laptop deals so far

If you haven’t got a huge amount of money to spare, it’s essential that you’re ultra-discerning when it comes to buying a laptop, especially around Black Friday, when a lot of the lowest prices on laptops aren’t really great deals at all. It’s flip to be cool

Samsung has two ranges of laptops out right now: the premium Pro range, which are truly lovely laptops, and the not-so-swanky non-Pro machines, which are almost as nice but much better value. This 15.6in Galaxy Book3 360, for instance, usually averages at around £966 but is currently on sale at a highly tempting £679 – much less than the Book3 Pro 360 (which is also on sale at £999 right now).

Samsung Galaxy Book3 360 Black Friday deal

It comes with a 360-degree hinge so you can fold the screen all the way around and use it as a giant tablet. There’s a stylus in the box and the specification is respectable for the money: an Intel Core i5-1340P processor, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD for storage. The only downside? It doesn’t come with the same 2.8k OLED display its Pro brethren have – although its Full HD Super OLED screen is still pretty good. All-in-all, it’s a cracking discount and the lowest price we’ve seen on this laptop yet.

“Desktop replacement “ is a phrase far too casually bandied about, but not when it comes to the Lenovo ThinkPad P16v. Don’t forget, it isn’t just laptops on offer on Black Friday – if you can buy it, there’s probably going to be a discount on it – it’s a great time to get shopping before the Christmas break. If you’re after something specific, here’s a selection of our roundup pages, to help you find the best deals:

Another great budget Core i3 choice

This Asus Vivobook looks like a nice budget laptop deal, mainly due to its internal specification. It comes with an 11th Gen Core i3-1115G4, 8GB of RAM and a sizeable 512GB SSD for storage. There’s nothing else particularly fancy about the laptop but this is a very good specification for what is a knock-down price of £299, reduced from the average Amazon mark of around £450.

A BIG price cut on a gaming Chromebook

It would be a shame to miss this deal on what is a really well-made gaming Chromebook. Yep, you read that right: gaming Chromebooks are a thing now. Instead of coming with a fire-breathing GPU, instead, they have a gaming-optimised screen and keyboard to take advantage of streaming services like Nvidia’s GeForce NOW, Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming and Amazon’s Luna

That’s why the Lenovo IdeaPad 5i Gaming Chromebook has a 16in 2,560 x 1,600 120Hz display and an expansive keyboard with an RGB backlight. If you’re in two minds about this Chromebook gaming malarky you can pick up the IdeaPad 5i for just £449 (down from £649)

The best price on a MacBook Air so far

Amazon isn’t flagging this as a Black Friday deal, so further reductions may arrive soon, but we don’t think that you’ll see a significantly lower price that is currently being offered on the 2020 M1 model at Amazon: £798 for the model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Considering Apple is still charging £999, that’s a pretty hefty discount on what is still a highly practical latop with a great screen, decent performance and incredibly long battery life.

The best Microsoft Surface deal is STILL IN STOCK

Our favourite deal on a Microsoft laptop so far this Black Friday is on the Surface Pro 9, which can be had for a cut-price £899 from the Microsoft Store with a Signature Keyboard cover thrown in for free.

Of all the Windows 2-in-1 detachable laptops, this is the sleekest and most desirable. It’s ultra-thin and light and the screen is just lovely. This model gets you the 12th Gen Core i5 model and comes with 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. Alas, you’ll have to buy the stylus separately, though.

Buy HP ENVY x360 15 Black Friday deal

Usually, you’d pay through the nose for a laptop like this but Curry’s has the Envy x360 15.6 on sale for just £599, which is near enough half price. A 13th Gen Intel Core i5 1335U CPU (with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage) keeps the show running and you get 6Ghz Wi-Fi for streaming your favourite shows, too.
