We REALLY like these Fire TV Stick Prime Day deals
Make your dumb TV smart with these brilliant Amazon Fire TV devices
When you bought your TV, you may well have assumed most of your watching was going to come from a Freeview box. How times have changed: now it’s a question of whether Netflix, Amazon Prime, NowTV or Apple TV Plus has the best boxset to binge this month.
So many apps require a reliable streaming solution, and one of the best and most affordable is Amazon’s own Fire TV brand. In short, these make dumb TVs smart: just plug one into a free HDMI port and you can access the top streamers in just a few taps of the bundled remote. Plus All4, iPlayer and ITV Hub too.
For Prime Day, all of Amazon’s streaming solutions are massively reduced. Here’s the full summary:
Product | Prime Day price | Discount |
Fire TV Stick Lite | £12.99 | £17 (57%) |
Fire TV Stick | £17.99 | £22 (55%) |
Fire TV Stick 4K Max | £32.99 | £22 (55%) |
Fire TV Cube | £54.99 | £55 (50%) |
All solid discounts, so which do you actually need?
In reverse order, the Fire TV Cube is the most fully featured solution, and I really liked it when I reviewed it. It’s probably overkill for most people’s needs, but it is three products in one: a 4K streamer, smart speaker and a universal remote. Still, a 50% discount is hard to turn down.
Next down is the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. As the name suggests, this is the HDMI stick that you need if you want to stream Netflix, Prime Video and Apple TV Plus in 4K and to take advantage of HDR.
The basic Fire TV Stick is for those who either don’t have a 4K TV, or just don’t really see the difference in quality.
The Fire TV Stick Lite, meanwhile, is all of that but without Dolby Atmos support and with a more basic remote that can’t control your TV or soundbar’s volume.
All of them are good options for sprucing up an ageing TV, or even newer smart TVs with weak built-in players. If you’ve had an eye on Amazon’s streaming solution, now is the time to buy.
