Watch the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip click open and close in this leaked video

If the eyebrow-raising price of the Motorola Razr has you considering your flip phone options, then you’ll be interested to get your first look at the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, which we can provide thanks to Ben Geskin on Twitter.
 
It’s a pretty short video, but it shows everything that you need to see. A compact square handset is pried open with a thumb on the left-hand side. opening it up to its full unfolded size. As previous display leaks have suggested (2,636 x 1,080 is the rumour) it’s very tall when open, with a small punch-hole notch in the middle.

 
After a brief look at it opened, the disembodied hand flips it closed with a satisfying ‘snap’ sound. When closed, the tiny screen on the front springs into life showing the time and battery life. It’s probably too small to read full messages, but a previous leak suggests it’ll be usable as a mini viewfinder, should you wish to use the phone’s superior rear camera for selfies.
 
That’s pretty much the entirety of the video, but fortunately pretty much every detail of the handset has already leaked elsewhere. You’re looking at a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, backed with 8GB RAM and 256GB onboard storage. Said storage isn’t expandable via microSD card, and there’s no headphone jack.
 
Although there are some disappointments there – the Snapdragon 855 is fast, but it’s still a year old – that still makes it quite a bit better equipped than its flip phone rival: the Motorola Razr. Said handset has a middling Snapdragon 710 processor powering things – a chip recently seen powering a handset that sold for £179. Despite this, the Motorola Razr will sell for around £1,350 SIM-free, or £99 per month on contract.   
 
With that in mind, the screen tech in 2020’s flip phones clearly isn’t cheap, so don’t expect the Galaxy Z Flip to be an absolute steal when it emerges blinking into the light at next Tuesday’s Samsung Unpacked event.
