Vodafone rolls out 5G in eight more UK locations

The mobile network has extended 5G to sites including Gatwick and Wolverhampton

Vodafone has extended its 5G network to eight more locations in the UK, bringing the total number of towns in which its 5G is available to 15. As of this week, Vodafone is rolling out 5G coverage in Gatwick, Wolverhampton, Bolton, Birkenhead, Plymouth, Newbury, Lancaster and Stoke-on-Trent.

The move comes just weeks after Vodafone’s 5G network launch on 3 July, which saw the firm roll out the service in London, Glasgow, Manchester, Liverpool, Cardiff, Birmingham and Bristol.

Earlier this year, the company announced that its 5G network would cover 19 UK towns and cities before the end of 2019. The five locations which have been promised the service but are yet to receive it are Blackpool, Bournemouth, Guildford, Portsmouth and Reading.

Meanwhile, eagle-eyed customers have been quick to note that two new additions to the network, Bolton and Lancaster, weren’t on the original lineup for 5G coverage. This means there are an additional two locations added to Vodafone’s confirmed list of 19 – so we can likely expect to see Vodafone’s 5G available in no less than 21 locations this year.

As for the competition, Vodafone pretty much has its peers nailed. EE has promised 5G in 16 locations before the year is up, but coverage is currently rolled out to only six places. As for other household names O2 and Three, they haven’t yet launched their 5G networks, giving Vodafone a significant advantage.

Nor is Vodafone confining its 5G operations to the UK. The company rolled out 5G coverage to 20 towns and cities in Germany, bolstering its European presence considerably.
