How to delete your Instagram account

Sharing photos, videos and stories of your favourite moments, memories you want to share with the world, has always been one of the main draws of Instagram. Eventually, however, you might decide you need to delete your account.

Perhaps you no longer want to share images of your private life on social media. Maybe keeping up with all the people you follow has started to feel boring or has become a chore. Whatever the reason, you’ve finally decided to call it quits and we can help with that, with these easy-to-follow steps to help you delete your Instagram account.

Be careful, though. While Instagram allows you to deactivate your account, allowing you to reactivate it at a later date, you can also permanently delete it, meaning you’ll never be able to retrieve it. You also can’t deactivate or delete your account using the Instagram app. We’ve broken it all down for you to follow, though, so you won’t have to worry about saying goodbye forever if all you wanted was a short break.

How to deactivate your Instagram account

1. Access your Instagram account and select the option in the top right, which will either be your account picture or an image of a white head and shoulders.
2. Next, click “Edit Profile” and then scroll down to find and choose “temporarily disable my account” in the bottom right.
3. Select a reason for why you’re leaving Instagram and then re-enter your password.
4. Finally, select “Temporarily Disable Account” and you’ll be good to go.

How to delete your Instagram account

1. Click on the following link to Instagram’s “Delete your account” page.
2. Select the dropdown menu and choose the reason for deleting your Instagram account and then enter your password.
3. If you’re ready to take the leap, select “permanently delete my account”.
