Audible has cut subscription costs for Black Friday
Cheap subscriptions for new members this Black Friday
I never used to see the point in audiobooks, but am now a full convert. For those moments where it’s not socially acceptable to read – when driving a car, or operating heavy machinery, for example – an audiobook lets you carry on making progress through your library and make the most of your downtime.
Usually, Amazon’s Audible subscription service charges you a monthly subscription of £7.99 per month. With this, you get credit for any book of your choosing each month, with the option to buy more if you like at full price (usually upwards of £15 per title.) For Black Friday, Amazon is offering new members the chance to get four months of Audible for £3.99 per month, before it reverts to its usual £7.99 price.
Given you can cancel at any time, this is a very tempting proposition. Essentially, you’re getting four books for £15.96 – and given a single audiobook will cost you about that on its own, it’s hard to argue with.
Of course, once you’re signed up, you’re not limited to the 21st-century version of books on tape. Audible has a selection of radio shows, speeches and stand-up comedy sets.
Pro tip though, for newbies: a credit is a credit, no matter how long the recording. So it’s worth checking the length of your download before checking out. You can sort the listings by length, if you really want to get your money’s worth. The complete Sherlock Holmes, narrated by Stephen Fry and coming in at just under 72 hours costs £69.99 – or one credit. The complete Jane Austin set is equally appealing.
