What is Green Monday, and how can you make the most of it?
Here's our guide to the lesser-known Green Monday
We’ve all heard of Black Friday. High Streets and shopping outlets groan under the weight of consumers looking for a great deal on their Christmas shopping. But what you might not know is that the second Monday of December is also a perfect time to hunt for bargains. And you won’t even have to leave the comfort of your home.
What is Green Monday?
The term Green Monday was coined in 2007 by online retailer Ebay. It’s a continuation of the Black Friday spirit: that means deals and discounts, and plenty of them.
In 2016, total online spending via e-commerce channels such as Ebay reached around USD$1.6 billion, due to the fact that it was traditionally the last day you’d be able to place an order and have it arrive in time for Christmas.

Why does Green Monday matter?
The more well-known Cyber Monday – placed neatly on the Monday after Black Friday has passed – is often the first port of call for bargains online. If you find that you’ve missed it, however, Green Monday is your final chance to catch the sales before standard delivery won’t make it to Christmas.
Ebay has a landing page dedicated to Green Monday each year, and other major retailers such as Argos and Amazon will roll out their own overhauls to mark the occasion. Deals might not match the savings on Black Friday itself, but it’s still worth a browse of your most-visited online retailers as many companies will be offering discounts.
How to make the most of Green Monday
Of course, the advent of the next-day delivery service has reduced some of the stresses of holiday shopping. But the day has stuck, and Green Monday remains one of the last opportunities to order items online and be rewarded by great discounts for doing so. If you want to take advantage of Green Monday, it’s as simple as visiting your favourite online retailers on Monday 10 December. Online stores like Ebay, Argos, and Amazon will update with a sizeable range of offers that you won’t find outside of the festive period.

We at Expert Rewiews offer a run-down of all the deals online throughout the year, and make a special effort for Black Friday/Cyber Monday and Green Monday. You’ll want to check Amazon and Ebay in particular, as both sites will dedicate an entire section to Green Monday deals.
Last year, the Amazon Green Monday sales marked the beginning of its Last Minute Christmas Deals period. The online retailer offered discounts of up to 25% across its range of Echo products, as well as savings on 4K TVs. The trendsetter Ebay offered savings of over 50% on everything from recliners to footwear, and is guaranteed to host another last minute sale this December in honour of its own Green Monday.
