Specifications
Key features: For babies weighing 3.5–24kg (7.5–52lb). Can be used in two positions: front (facing in) and back carry.
On first glance, the Connecta baby carrier doesn’t seem that special: it’s little more than a lightweight rectangular piece of fabric that reaches around and supports the baby like a pouch. But it’s this simple design that is winning over parents and reviewers across the board: the Connecta baby carriers claimed pole position on the list of most-borrowed carriers at sling libraries in 2015.
Design and comfort
Suitable for carrying babies from birth right up to a weighty 24kg, the Connectababy is seriously strong. However, it’s also impressively thin and lightweight: the lack of unnecessary padding and inserts mean it folds up very, very small.

It may seem hard to believe that a carrier with so few appendages could be that comfortable, but the design is ingenious – wide shoulder straps cross at the back, distributing the weight evenly, and the light weight means that the pounds you are carrying are all down to the size of your baby. Meanwhile, an ingenious accessory strap determines the size of the seat – you strap it round the bottom part of the carrier and tighten it according to how big the baby is. Head support comes from the foldable hood at the top.
When you’re adjusting any new carrier for a newborn, it usually takes a bit of puzzling out before it’s properly adjusted and passes the TICKS guidelines (click here if you’re not familiar with the TICKS checklist). The Connecta is no exception: the instructions don’t really tell you everything you need to do in order for it to fit the baby perfectly. I recommend watching an online tutorial here to get it right, because once you’ve got the hang of it, it goes on easily.
Being a lightweight carrier gives the added benefit of simplifying the journey out of the house: you don’t have to factor in reams of material or quilts when dressing the baby, and you can monitor his temperature easily.
The Connecta’s inners, straps and lining are made 100% from organic cotton, and the outers are available in organic cotton too. In keeping with the vogue for beautiful designs among rival brands, the Connecta carriers are available in a huge range of statement patterns and colours ranging from neo-goth motifs to Liberty florals, as well as special edition versions which come in silk, harris tweed, or UVA/UVB-protective fabrics. So whatever your fashion or practical preferences, there’s a lightweight, compact baby carrier to match.
Verdict
Personally, I’m a big fan of the Connecta. It’s light, comfortable and super easy to get to grips with. It’s not the cheapest carrier out there, but if you’re looking for a quality, versatile carrier then you can’t go far wrong here.
